If a site that is made in html and currently has a good or high search engine listing is replaced by a completely flash website, will this effect the current search engine ranking? And If so, what must be done to avoid disturbing the current ranking?
Thank You

If you remove the old content yes, drastically.
The old html content should remain as legacy files on the server.

OK what do you mean as a legacy file or to be more direct what exactly should be done.
Do you mean keep the old site and put it in a sub-directory.
There will also be an html site or (no-flash) version but that will also be new. in a sub called noflash.
But what exactly should be done?

Well just remember, there is NO SUCH THING as a "Flash Web site"... only HTML, PHP, ASP, etc pages that happen to have some Flash content.
But that is a GOOD thing!
No need to create a separate "HTML version" off in some other folder, use swfobject to provide all that HTML content as alt content on the same page as the Flash content.
As much as possible you want to protect and build on the ranking of a particular URL (be it "Flash" or regular HTML). Moving your HTML content to a sub folder means you would have to rebuild the ranking for that new URL.
swfobject can greatly enhance SEO of Flash content.. as seen here..

What you see is a simple .swf (a still image).. but look at the source code for the detailed HTML alt content, describing in much greater detail what the site is about.
Here for info about swfobject:

Most Excellent,
Golden info. Could not have asked for a better response.
I will study the examples and I'm sure I will have another question or two.
This is stuff I should know as a flash designer...Should have known!
I will learn this and practice it.
Thank You, very much...
Expect another follow up question or two coming soon.
Thanks
Eric
