Can php talk to flash (as3) easily?

Hi there - i have a simple login/registration php script on an educational site, and a separate simple AS3 flash game. Is it possible (and easy) to detect in the flash game if someone has logged in and output their name in the flash movie, like for instance, 'hello mike'. Also if there was was an easy way to show that the person had completed the game in the database.
