flash newbie

ok, just joined this thing, just discovered the endless creative wonder that is Flash and have one tiny question: Every Flash site I see only takes up a small portion of my screen. Why do designers seem to make their movies a specific size as opposed to making it, say, always 100% of the browser screen? I figured it would be because of those with smaller screens and low resolutions, but if one uses 100%, then you please both the small screens and the big screens.... don't you?
thanks.

hi, I think you've probably posted this in the wrong forum (perhaps general help).
But anyway, most of the time people do it out of personal choice, but also, I agree about the fact they might do it for screen sizes too.
I've always done it outta personal choice.

Well... I think this way...
If you make Flash movie, sometimes it doesn't matter whether it gets expanded or shrinked as long as it is proportionally resized... and sometimes it does matter if it gets resized... For example, I have made a Flash game, and things on the stage are kinda small so you don't want them to get smaller, or the computer gets really sluggish when it is expanded to the full screen sized movie... That might be when you want your movie not to be resized... Don't know if I have answered you right though... ;)

2cents worth
I would ask you what is your screen resolution. Quite often designers develop for the lowest common denominator for screen resolution which is 800x600. If your screen res is set higher than that, then what may appear as normal on a 800x600 screen res will appear small on a screen res set higher.
