Shimmer Effect

Hi anyone know how to make a shimmer effect as in the object fades in like its coming out of water. I need this without using .setMask coz im exporting in flash 5. or a totally tweened one.

Well, it's difficult to know what kind of shimmering effect. Maybe create a mask layer with tweened oval shapes which grow, shrink and move in an irregular circular path, like water reflections?

Or maybe you could create a diagonal set of irregular, curvy lines as a mask and tween them so that you get a nice rippling effect.

it would work much better if you have two images the same, offset one of them by three or four pixels and then mask one of them over the other, using the technique I said above. You will get a nice water effect.

I have a file. I don't know if it's quite what you wanted, but you might be able to play with it and get something out of it.

There is a subtle ripply effect when the mouse is out of frame and a growing radial mousefollow ripple on mouseOver too.
