View Full Version : Tutorial troubles

I'm new to Flash. I have MX (Educational Version).
I've tried following some of the tutorials and frankly they're a bit confusing. For example Tutorial 21 : Initializing Movie describes creating numerous .fla's then doesn't appear to be clear as to which of these the suggested content should go. Also I think that it must be written for Flash 5 as some of the directions for inserting actionscript made no sense at all. Some I was able to find.

I may just be dumb I guess.

I don't have a problem with actionscript syntax eg. variables, if then else do while etc. Because 15 years ago I completed training in Cobol and MS Basic. Basic used pretty much the same syntax. I also code my own HTML and have even dabbled in Javascript.

From reading through your forums I get the impression that others have had problems too.

I am desperate to become more fluent with Flash & Actionscript. I've tried using the online help files too but get the distinct impression that they are specifically written to put people off.:(

I wanted to learn the stuff so that I could convert the two charity web sites I created & maintain to flash. Looks like it's gonna be a long while before I'll get there.

I don't suppose any one of you might take pity on us lamers and start a tutorial about building a web site. One that started literally with the very basics (and doesn't assume that the reader knows what an MC is). Then builds upon it one step at a time.

What do you say?

PS. On a more positive note. From scouring actionscript.org I've picked up quite a lot and am starting to make a little sense of some of it. It's just that what I have managed to pick up is fragmented and therefore I can't seem to find a place to start with the whole subject.

That was a Newbflash.

Greets and thanks to all. :)
