Preloader for mobile apps?

I understand the need for a preloader in a flash web app... but is it neccessary on a mobile app?

Anyone have any experience with this?

no need for it. it wouldn't work anyway unless you're streaming something through the web.

There are cases when a mobile app takes some time to load (data from a local or remote database). You might want to show something during that process (not only when the app initializes), otherwise it might look like it's stuck.
