thanks again FaraFiro - looked at the code from bit-101, but don't know too much about Math.random? Should the code go in the first keyframe on the main timeline?

and Math.random only generates a number between 1 and 0

just make a movie clip, name it ball
open the library
right click the ball movie, chose linkage
check the export in the first frame for action script
delete it from the stage
with the script in the first frame
test the movie
