Manipulating input text

Please somebody write us a turorial on how to have interactivity with the users input text; eg: The user inputs text into a text field which can then be saved to his hard drive with a variable name which will then allow it to be later loaded into a dynamic text field so that it can be read. I want to create a sort of 'online journal' but on cd not the web - am I making sense here???
