Interesting, no Netscape 4.7 though, ah well just playing devils advocate. The javascript opening of a browse window, used to be an IE only thing, seems things have changed though. Nice find.

Yup... It says there are some browser compatibiltiy issues... But then... :)
I just wish that this came up when I was trying to make my own version of it... This should have saved me at least a couple of days... :(

CyanBlue

Um... Not me... Maybe I just don't know how to follow the instruction??? I'll just use what I created long time ago... :( Or, maybe freddycodes will show us better way??? ;)
Billy T

I think it might have something to do with register globals being off in 4.3 but you are right - freddy will show us the way

this looks like a tight component, just one thing...
...I goto download the .zip file, and it comes up as an empty .zip file. no files inside. this was the english version I tried.
is this just me?

the online example of this component will only upload NON progressive jpgs (which is obviously what you want...)
for some reason mine lets you upload progressive jpgs - anyone know what I need to change to fix this?
Thanks
Billy T

hmm just tested again and the online example does actually let you upload progressive jpegs... which is not good
in another test, I found that the script returns a type of
image/jpeg
for both types of jpeg...which is not good either
dang!
how can I detect if an image type is image/pjpeg?
Thanks

What I did to avoid the progressive JPEG file was to use ImageMagick to convert it to GIF and save back to JPEG file to make sure the file is the baseline JPEG file... and also used it to resize the dimention of it... That's all I can remember... :Dfor both types of jpeg...which is not good eitherWhat do you mean??? Why not good???
i wished i'd seen this a couple of months ago to. i worked hard trying to get flash to upload a file (ended up with 'tripleaxis' on actionscripts.co.uk sorting it for me).
i needed it for a backend to a site that i've been building for a while. the file will now upload jpg's, swf's and pdf's. the files are then placed in a folder on the server depending on their extension and the path to each stored in mySQL so that all the data can be recieved.
not sure i want to post the link to the backend at the moment as i don't want lots of peeps testing it whilst i'm still working on the frontend of the file but if anyone is interested in the basic files i'd be happy to zip em all and post em here. i've not looked at the above component but i would guess it's a lot tidier than my solution!

yo Bleeda - LONG TIME NO SEE!!! ;)
I'd be interested in checking out those files - Thanks
Cyan - its not good because I need the cms to be able to tell the difference between progressive and non progressive jpgs because this is a cms for a flash site...
cheers

Me and my team have recently devolped an interactive e-card using the yamz browser. You Take a look here. http://209.18.99.110/christmascarol .
Seems to work fine on a PC in all platforms but on MAc is not stable for explorer or netscape 7.2 (netscape 7.1 works fine... wierd)
In explorer the uploading seems to be unstable (hit or miss) and in netscape 7.2 there is a wierd image problem. The image problem to me, seems to be the position of the browse area. when it is first opened the screen there is no flash. But if you scale the window the the flash seems to appear. Please take a look and if anyone has any ideas I would be very greatful...
Thanks

its possible to upload stuff from flash? i never knew there is such a thing... then again i've only coded in AS for a few month LMAO
CyanBlue

It's not the Flash who's doing the actual uploading... It'll be the HTML/PHP in that case... Flash just gets a signal when the uploading is done... :)

oh... it'd be better if flash can just handle uploads by itself.. then again its not server side so i dont blame it... though i don't see why macromedia shouldn't let flash submit file data through POST

My thought exactly, but then we don't make the Flash... :(

I'll take a look @ the other uploader. We seemed to fix the problem in netscape 7.2 just to get another. Seems that the new netscape on mac reads the java script differently. For instance, instead of making the java script browse button invisable it makes the whole flash file invisable. To solve this we set the visibilty to 1%. Seems to work great in every other browser except in netscape 7.2 which shows the js browse button... EH what can you do?? Seems to me that Mac better get their act together with thier web browsers. I've never had soooo many cross platform issues with a project . This whole experience really turned me off to Mac in general.

There seems to be an issue with file size. Does anyone know the limit? Is there a way to get around the size limit? Anyone broken apart the browse swf:)
Thanks,
John

What's the biggest file size you were able to handle???
Also, check out the PHP.ini file to see what's the size that you have specified with the 'upload_max_filesize'...

Hey, thanks for the quick response. I am not using php. I am doing it with coldfusion. But thanks, I did find the maxSixe variable and did redefine it :) Cheers

Hi
http://office.azero.it/flashupdate/ - it seems that Firefox is having javascript problems launching the browse window.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/yamzbrowser/ is also looking tricky across cross browsers.
I am coding an image upload (and then thumbnail resize) from Flash using Coldfusion6.1 on a Windows server. Currently the most elegant method seems to be a simple javascript spawn child window, and do it in html.
Regards
Dave.

Hey Dave,
That sounds like a perfect solution. How is it going?? Also, I do not hear of a lot of developers using flash with coldfusion, do you do a lot of remoting? I would love to see some of your flash cf stuff. (Including this uploader:)
