Flashing text with actionscript (timeline problems)??

I'm trying to creat a rapid flashing (on and off) of a symbol. I could normal accomplish this with the time line alternating symbol keyframes with blank key frames and then turning the movies FPS up to say 30FPS for a quick flash. The problem is that I am loading this movie into another movie that is running at 12FPS - so that is not an option.
Does anyone know how to do this with Actionscript. Maybe just switching the alpha property from 100 to 0 over and over again??? Any ideas?

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
this._visible = !this._visible;
}

That reverses the visibility property every frame. 12 times a second. Put it on the MC you want to flash and you're away.
