hi
does anyone know how to get an action response out of a right-mouse buttin click, instead of the menus in swf mode?
i want to emulate some software in flash, and the original software has a lot of right-click functions.
basically when the user right-clicks, i want to make visible or invisible certain objects like buttons and movieclips... to represent the real software we're emulating's functions...
has anyone else done this? i remember it being a problem a few years ago and having to do cerain sections in plain html and javascript. has MX sorted this out yet?
thx
you basically can't do it.
You reduce the menu or change it to a copy/paste by sticking a text field over the movie.
Its not a bug, it's intentonal don't expect MM to change it soon.

Aww....pity
will have to go on without it...:p
Stand alone only as well if my skim of the sites blurb was anything to go by. Is it basically a stand alone player hack (and violation of the software license if you use it on flashplayer).
You can make some right type functionality stuff using javscript in a webpage by disabling the context menu. Check out the onContextMenu event. I think you just call a function and return false to disable it.

yeah, i know it's not a bug. but with mm going on about how flash is a great tool for creating eLearning modules, you'd think someone would have mentioned this...
one of the main things people will be trying to do is make interactive mock-ups of other software for training. i used to do so using javascript. but of course it's not a smooth looking as flash...
if i do use a solution outside the swf itself, won't it restrict me from passing infor back to the swf? so the interactive nature of sending info to the server (using AICC which they installed in MX) will be lost..
i really wanted to stick with using flash only for this.:-((
(please don't mention authorware-it's terrible and not as flexible as flash)
depressingly

No one was mentioning the A word till you started.

don't let this get personal. i have a habit of letting rip when things don't go my way. but i'll behave since i'm new here.
i gues i'll just go back to making cartoons with flash and forget trying to do something useful with it...
long live the other crap software out there...
back to unix for real work. forget m$ and the rest of them.
but seroiusly, thx for the quick replies.

btw, i was talking about mm, not you guys here, bigging-it up. so let's try and untwist those knickers :)
Wos jux having a laugh
I too think authorware is the devil's own ejaculate.
Flash can do plenty useful things (based of xml or serverside for example). Just not with right clicks.

i know... it's just f**king annoying when you are trying to tell you mates (unix heads) flash isn't as evil as they think... then it goes and embarrasses you with something as elementary as this...
also, i'm out in thailand now trying to get some kids into working with computers and i wanted to build some interactive courses for them in flash. but we still have this little drawback. (ok ok, i'll shut up about it. nother better than a problem ignored).
i use is for graphics and fun, but i really want to use it for other stuff too cos it's fast to build and publish with. and now with plamsa it's even more complelling to use.
alas...
(ps. check out www.dogshitterwants.com for our latest in pointless flash animation. you'll either love it or hate it. we hope both :)
