Where did you put the code?
CyanBlue

Howdy... ;)
This is not likely case, but some people actually had this one set, and I don't know why...
Anyways...
File - Publish Settings
Select Flash tab
There is an option box that says 'Omit Trace actions'
Make sure that option is not checked...
And then, go back to pellepiano question and answer it...

nope that wasnt ticked cyan. thanks anywayz. i put the trace bit on the stage.. i mean i noticed it didnt work for anything o i created a one frame movie and put the code on the first frame in teh stage to see what it would do. i dont suppose anyone could create a fla that they know sends some results and see if it works on my com?
cheers!

Try this.....
www.andreas-oberg.com/trace.fla
By preview, do you mean you run Test Movie? Because it wont show in the authoring environment.

Sonic, try scrolling the bottom, horizontal slider on the output window all the way to the left. If the trace wasn't working at all, the output window wouldn't come up.

yeh i moved the scrool to the right. nothing was on the left, and i opene upthe crool window manually. it didnt come up.

Try reinstalling Flash.

Maybe it's time for you to upload some sample, sonic_2k_uk??? ;)

I had a similar thing and it was the Omit Trace Action. So maybe you should put up the fla before reinstalling flash. I'd be glad to see if it I get the mae behaviour.
CyanBlue - OMMFDC!! :p

yeh the omit trace thing is fine. its not ticked.
Maybe it's time for you to upload some sample, sonic_2k_uk???
i have a feeling there is a hidden meaning behind that but i cant work it out. you mean you want a sample fla with what im doing? all im doing is putting trace("hello") in a frame and nothings happening?!
thanks guys!
Andy Burton

No, no hidden meaning behind that line... ;)
I just want to test the same file on my machine to see if I get the output or not... ;)
subquark
06-12-2003, 07:53 PM
so you just have a one frame movie with
trace ("hello");
is it in either single or double quotes?
he he, I see the hidden meaning, that CyanBlue! :p

OMMFDC???
OCMMFD???
sonic_2k_uk
06-12-2003, 09:10 PM
lol im feeling left out of this hidden meaning!! :(
just to quadruple check im doing things right... enter trace("whatever") on a frame go to control click test movie... and should say whatever in the output window which pops up? well teh window pops up but it dont contain anything!?
lol no serious i dont know whether its some american joke but i dont get it    :( :(
subquark

American joke?
subQuark is french-Canadian and CyanBlue is Korean.
Only hidden thing is that CyanBlue (a certified MM Flash Developer, not that designer crap) charges for every answer he gives you. No need to give him permission, he is already debiting your account . . . :p
So back to your quandry:
trace ("is this thing on");
should display is this thing on in the Output window. So you are saying the output window opens but is blank?
sonic_2k_uk
06-12-2003, 09:23 PM
looool. silly moi.
yer. opens but is blank.

Just save that file and upload it so that I can check it out... ;)
We are not translating any code here, subquark...
What I said was...
>> OMMFDC???
Uh???
>> OCMMFD???
Are you talking about that???
That's what I meant... :D

Hm... Are we already contaminated, subquark???
I wish I was contaminated with Martini, but I am still at my evil day job!!!
So what's up with the trace thing? I do not have flash at work . . .
subquark
06-12-2003, 10:13 PM
ah ha, verbose (that's Retrotron! ha ha). But I hope he always stays verbose, it is a very good thing!
glad to hear you figured it out. I had a similar thing and did not know tha Omit Trace Actions in the Publish settings would stop it from displaying. It drove me nuts!!! Why is it in the publish settings?!?!
Is there a Certified Macaroni Flash Developer here that can explain that? I crack myself up . . .

hey sonic_2k_uk, your site looks pretty nice, could you speed up your intro? I think it would look better. What's up with the picture section? I don't see any pictures of Britney. C'mon, don't do this to a fat, 41 year old man!!! And also you don't have a defined hitArea on her button, only the letter outlines are acting as the hitArea.
Hurry up a fix the pictures!!! :D
CyanBlue
06-12-2003, 10:28 PM
Ha... That was the case??? Geez... Why does MM has to spread things like that all over the place??? Good job, sonic_2k_uk... ;)
Huh??? What picture??? And you just made me hungry, subquark... I'll be needing some Macaroni soon... Before I go on... Why is it in the publish settings?!?!A simeple answer would be that's the MM's fault... :D

loool. thanks. i made that flash site back in august :D

15!!! see that ain't right. makes me feel real bad . . .
that bridal site looks nice!:) I love how crisp the font looks and the choice of font is perfect. only one critique, I'd love to see the little bit of extra work to have the buttons as movieclips so that once you rollOver, the fade effect (which I really like a lot) continues. in effect, no rolling off. does that make sense? see my current rough draft at www.rockagainstsuicide.com/flash and see how the buttons continue their "reaction" even if you roll over another.
very minor point and all in all, you have a lot of talent!

wow the buttons on that are pretty swish! ive never really got into the buttons side of thing atm, just concentrated on AS.. guess i need to start creating my own buttons using mc's then!
thanks your your help :D

actually I meant using mcs as buttons, no button symbols at all. it's a little more work but more powerful. I give an example on my site, just click the lower left blue button and I discuss mcs as buttons.
do good! ;)

I know this is really old, but I've had the same problem some times, (i never even knew those trace panel options), and I always solved it by copying all the layers in the movie, along with all the library, to a new (blank) fla...
