ask farafiro to moderate it for ya?

anyway, I think he might consider barca, just to see how far they'll go...

but then he'd never have to return to england alive I guess...
you don't leave the team that carried you up there...

as a patriotic Manchest United Fan, I would like to see him stay, I think he want's to stay too, but because Sir Alex said he can go and basically he has shown him the door.

He wants to go to Real, but they haven't bidded for him yet, I think he will go there...or Barcelona

anyway he'll always be England captain, no one could make him instead in the nation team.

my god he's planning to go 'brazil' :D
or just stealing him before other teams do so :D

but he'll have a hard time replacing becks...
and the sponsors will have to try harder, 'cause losing becks is a marketing dropdown...

Fergie has already brought him, so no we don't need the money. He has enough, but yet he does have enough players too lol

I think it is about time Man U had a change and sold a few players personally.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is such a buy, what great talent he has. Need more bargain players like himself hehe

At the risk of being banned from as.org, I'd like to suggest that David Beckham is not good enough to play for Madrid, and might be a flop at Barcelona

*ducking behind the nearest table until the sound of smashed plates subsides ... and then peeking around one edge slowly*

There's no doubting that from set pieces, he is a world class player, but he doesn't have the ability to run the big games or win them for you on a regular basis like someone like Zidane, Rivaldo or Figo can.

His game seems to be much more suited to the Premiership or maybe even more so to Italy where he is able to spray passes from deep across the field. However, in Spain you are much more isolated with the ball, and expected to beat your man more often ... something that Beckham isn't necessarily very good at.

It seems though that Ferguson has had enough of his high profile lifestyle though. I think he will probably end up at Real. They have the money and can see what a good marketing product he will be, and on a personal note, who wouldn't want to play in that team?!?!

Whether he will make the first 11 or not, is another story. Personally, I'd rather keep Figo out on the right as I just think he is more dangerous when faced with a defender. However, I think that is the only position that Beckham will be challenging for on a regular basis. They won't move him in to the middle as you can't drop Zidane, and Makele is possibly the most crucial player in the team because he just sites there and allows the flair players like Zidane and Figo to get forward. And Beckham is definitely not a holding midfield player.

There's been alot of press linking him with Barcelona too, which could be a bad move. The fans there are demanding at the best of times, but after the season they've just had, they'll be baying for blood next year. After not qualifying for Europe next season, Barcelona have some financial problems and so it's likely that if they sign Beckham, he will be the only (major) signing that they will make throughout the summer. He will, therefore, be expected to drag the club single handedly out of its slump. Even if he gets his favourite central midfield position, I just can't see him being able to dominate and run games in La Ligua as the fans would want him to. The pressure on him will be enormous.

I think the best move for him would be to go to Italy, where the pace is not quite so hectic and his passing skills would be more effective.

For the moment though, I'll just shut up and crawl back under my stone ;)

Ahhh - I'm not falling for that one.

As soon as I get back from the bookshop, my rock will have been moved, Real will have realised that they need to keep Figo ... and Beckham will have moved to Man City! :p

I'm not much of a soccer fan (eh I'm american, it would be strange if I like it), but here's an ESPN article on the american response to Beckham's new contract.

I'm with you, Simontheak (for real :D). People that succeed in England aren't necessarily successful in Spain (take Anelka for instance).

And by the way, who's going to shoot the free kicks, now? Figo? Haha! Zidane? (yes!) Roberto Carlos? Why not? Beckham? Probably not.

perhaps, after all it is entirely a different circumstance for him
