I have just added new functionality to my portfolio website and I am wondering if I could get some feedback? Thanks.

I have a pet peeve on sites that I have to "enter", just me but when I type in a URL or click a link, I want my content, not a list of things I need to see your site. A simple detection scheme can catch the Flash Player and required screen resolution (realistically, how many viewers at 800X600 are going to change their resolution to look at a site, or even know how to change resolution?).

Also, the words "those" and "recommended" are mispelled (you have "thoes" and "recomended"), so that was my initial impression. If I was a potential employer, I'd leave your site now . . .

Oops, now that everything has loaded (why not load in sections as the user requests that info?) I see that your statement that 1024 is best, well I am 1024 and I still have to scroll horizontally.

Strike Three. I'm being harsh because you obviously have the skill.

Also, maybe a pixel font for clarity? Some lines are clearer than others.

I like the layout and you have the ability, just some minor points that need to be addressed to make you shine.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I think I will change the main page a little so when you first enter the site, my book auto scales to fit the browser window. Also, thanks for the the info on the miss spellings. I didn't realize I had made such elementry errors. :( On the page turning effect. I do see what you guys are saying about it being a bit jerky. I have increased the frame rate up to 30fps but it still isn't smooth. It currently is working off onMouseMove but I might change that to an onEnterFrame and see if that works better. Thanks again for all the constructive feedback. I have some more functionality still to add to the site so I might be calling for some more feedback in the near future.

hey urban, glad to see you did not get all offended. i rteally think your site is nicely done, I don't see much jerkyness on the page flip. Not enough that a casual (ie, non-as.org flash extremist) viewer would notice it. I don't think increasing the frame rate is the way to smooth it out if you are already at 30fps. Is it a tween? If so, it's a pretty big (pixel wise) area to move like that.

Have you seen pixelwit's page flip? It's very smooth because it's all actionscript.

The page flipping is done with actionscripting and masks. The one thing that I haven't figured out how to make clear to a user on my site is that you can roll over the top corners of the pages and flip the page manualy. When you roll over the corner and keep the mouse there, the corner will curl up. Once the corner is curled up you can click and drag the page around dynamicaly. I did it using 2D vector math. Once you play around with it you will know there is no tweening involved. The problem I am having right know is how to make that aparent to the user. I've thought of automaticaly curling the corner down when a user first goes to the site but there are some complications with the zooming functions if the corner is down at the same time (scaling gets
!@#$ up). I was also thinking of having a short animation of some sort to explain the navigation but I would rather it be intuitive and subtle to the user. I don't wan't anything too distracting from the content.

I'm also wondering if I could also get some feedback on the sub-navigation I have below the toolbar titled 'View Recent Additions'. I know I don't have a lot of content up yet so one of my friends was commenting on even having the sub-navigation. He said it wasn't necissary and actualy detracted from the page flipping and etc. of the book. I'm wondering if I could get some more opinions on the subject. Anyone? The thing is I have more functionality that I am working on for the sub-navigation and I don't know if I should do it or not. What I have in mind is to have it sortable by title (alphabeticaly), date modified (I already have this), by Section, and page number. I don't want to put a lot of time into it and then not even use it so that's why I'm asking. Anyways, if you made it this fare through my post, thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing the replies.

Hi Urban

I have been searching for a way to create a filp book
and I like how you have done it.
I want the user to be able to click to get to the next page
and click on tabs.
This is really what I want to achieve

And after searching for days, yours seems to be the most similar.
Could you please help me out with this?
Or at least point me in the right direction?

I would truely appreciate it:) !

btw: I really like how your site is designed..very creative and smooth

Thanks
