Hmmmmmmmmm my intern job....... is not really @ a web design company but a company that needs alot of websites done n techinical support and wat not..
they have a head computer techie person in charge of the department and me too......... but shes so weird
she told me n made me feel so bad cause I didnt know asp..... even tho she claims asp is html......   If it was so.. I woulda knew it by now
she made me change 140 or so asp pages.... where each page has only 5 things to change... where if she made the script a function...it woulda been easier... although I dont know asp... tg from this forum has gave some hints on how to pass variables
now she told me when im done with 140 PAges... i will b designing an intro.. a flash intro for a company page........ soudns interesting? ........ not quite.......she wants me to duplicate a flash intro..... (pretty shytty one @ dat) and change some pictures and text and thats it........
should i say i dont wanna copy and so forth?
wat would u do?

Depends ... would you have sex with her if it would result in a promotion (assuming you're not already attracted to her ... and if that's the case, let's just pretend you're not for a sec here, ok) ?

web designers copy **** all the time
just steal the concept and make the graphics your own...

I don't recall ever seeing something completely-out-of-the-blue-new if that's what you mean billy. But that's merely because we can't keep a lid on our memeory and don't know any better: we humans are such helpless creatures really.:(

lol... I say you make the copy... sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. BUT! is she's treating you like *hit than just don't copy it, makes a better one, and throw that in her face. :D
(can I swear? just saying words like *hit and cr*p?)

I'm with the first part of colin14'sI say you make the copy... sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. you may lose your job for not doing that, so u should do it if u wanna still in
or don't and leave it before getting involved and have dirty hands and thoughts
but, if u want my advice, and u have time
do what she wants and also a new one for what you want
and show her both (but take care of your original work, u may get robbed)
good luck

theres no way you could take care of your original work, with all these swf decompilers out there, and if it is any decent, the website gets speread....it will b copied i think.. but as a designer..if someone copiies your site..dont you sorta first feel pissed that someone copied it, but then you would think you accomplised something special that ppl are trying to imitate it?

Hey guys.
Timmee's got a real problem there - if he doesn't do as he's told, he could lose his job, but if he DOES do as he's told he has got to steal someone else's work.
I don't think you have to find an answer for him at all costs. And I'm glad that it isn't ME who is in his position.
Simply moving the goalposts to make stealing OK isn't the way to resolve it - even if you do back it up with a whole truckload of casual swearing :)
Like I said, I'm glad it isn't me.

ah, just take a bunch of screen shots and fade em in and out!
but really, as a fellow Canadian and I'm sure as loyal to the Queen as you are, this is a dilema for Timmee101.
Can you post the intro that you are supposed to rip? Maybe all of us can come up with a great idea.
I was offered $200 to rip this piece of crap intro!! Take a look at it (broadband), manit will make you laugh so hard :D
http://www.goldsgym.com/
Man, that is bad. But anyway, I said no and am now making my own intro for them and they will pay me $400! BUT, this is freelance and not a job like your situation. Ricod says to have sex with her, so you should do that and then she will think you are a God and melt when you walk into the room . . . oops, dozed off . . .
You have to be true to yourself, tell her you will not copy the other intro but that you will do something in the same spirit. Then do your take on it (keep in mind what is needed by the client and the message to get across) and I'm sure it will be fine (and if not, she won't be happy with anything).
So post the intro your supposed to rip, and if she is cute, any pics of her . . .
:)

That link is amusing, subquark.
Makes you wonder, though. Your client obviously was impressed by it, otherwise they wouldn't have asked for a rip.
It made me think how you see people walking around with open collar shirts wide as a seagull's wings, a heap of heavy jewellery, and cologne that could stun a rhino at 50 paces.
They obviously think they're looking good... other people don't.
I say tom-a-to, you say tom-ay-to. ;)

Are you saying I don't look good!?! :(
just kidding, well the client is a small web company here in Miami that also wanted me to lift the Impress Software music from eye4u.com! i also said no to that! but they (www.miamiwebmasters.com) have stumbled into a few well paying clients that don't know any better.
Very good point on the tomato, although I prefer potato (you can make vodka from them and make martinis from that!) :p

Ill post the link on monday @ work....... but I know the actual person that wants the site done in the company...
so I might talk to him directly
itz change that my ... supervisor has no talent of design or profesionallity....... n she probably copies ASP code... or use an open source one...... cause no way should i do something for 140 pages
http://64.201.167.25/coachweb/
dats the site im doing right now
theres 2 banners...... i made the nicer looking one.....havent had time to change that for 140 pages.....
the BG is so ugly but she likes it.....as long as putting 1024-768 pictures n squeezing it into mouseover

did you do that site? it's very functional, I like it!
Two mistakes though: take off Newfoundland, those newfies don't know anything but tryin' to get off the rock and also take off PEI, they're to busy diggin' potatos! :p
so, you should talk to him and try to make an intro that is exactly what he wants. if he likes it, he may have other work for you!
If Colin Moock did what other people wanted, we would not know who he is!

were you sarcastic about the site?
cause u betta b hahah
if it was up to me.....ill take the entire site down
cause no one carez haha
Ricod

to Timmee101 : I think it's a good idea to talk to the one who's it for. Ripping something is something you can do when you run out of ideas. As long as you have ideas, try to make em work for you.
to subquark : Some people only see what they want to see ... I'm not saying he has to sleep with her ... I was trying to show a few similarities with other moral dillemas. I feel so misunderstood :(

timmee101, I like the site, just making newfie jokes! but make the intro the guy wants, not your boss
Ricod, just teasing, you outta be telling me to sleep with her!!! :D or at least to go **** myself!!! Your advice to Timmee101 is sound and very good, he needs to be true to himself, and it may be akward or foolhearty now, but in the long run it will be better for him. You are well understood and your advice to Timmee101 is very good and valuable.
I wish I had people like you in my life at Timmee101's age! ;)

no, in Canada we make fun of people from Newfoundland like Americans make Pollock jokes.
Where does a newfie keep his armies? Up his sleevies! :p

We don't make jokes about Jackson Pollock ... much.
Anyhoo! Design is always built on previous design, either as emulation or reaction. Stuff like Abstract Expressionism (speaking of Jackson Pollock) breeds reactionary work like photo-realism as well as stuff like New Expressionism...the fact of the matter is it's one big dialogue. Anyone ever seen Amadeus? Where Mozart tells Salieri he improved his piece?
Most of the time directors and clients don't really know what they want but saying "something like that" is the easiest way to get it across. I know I describe stuff like that all the time. "Something cool, sorta like the opening credits for SLeepy Hollow". Kay can attest to this. Take what they give you as a starting point and make something new from there. Be creative.

Yes, I am in Atlanta at the moment, *bounce* though still no news on the Fiance(e) Visa front. Vile and I were simply pining away apart so I've come over to visit for a bit while we wait.
I was supposed to be staying for 3 weeks, however my return flight was last Thursday and I'm still here. Oops. ;)
We basically decided to make the most of the 90 days I'm allowed to stay in the US on a Visa Waiver, especially since I STILL don't have a job to go back to in the UK having been made redundant before Christmas. Might as well do something useful with all this freetime. And if that means extended visits to one exceptionally stinky 'merican and his dog so be it. *wheeee!*
As to the wedding, we're still stuck in limbo waiting for the US Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to process our petition, and have no idea how much longer it's going to be before our file gets looked at. We are now on day 117 of our wait, while some people filing through other service centres are posting that they received approval within a fortnight. *grumps*
The TSC didn't process any applications for an entire 3 months back in October and have a HUGE backlog they don't even seem to be attempting to shift.
Still, we've formed a protest group with other angry petitioners to try to press the Texas Service Centre into action. Alongside monthly protests outside the centre itself our tactics seem to be working slowly and the TSC have actually started adjudicating petitions again, albeit sporadically. We just have to hope that they keep going and get to our petition SOON!
And no, Linckx, you're right, I'm not here for the landscape, just one rather yummy redneck who goes by the name of Vile. ;)
