New G5 (http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/ptech/06/24/apple.g5.reut/index.html)

I have always been a PC user...but the new G5 is really making me consider a change of religions....should I become a Mac-ite...

it does look super nice. if i hadn't just bought a new PC i'd consider buying one. heck i might buy one anyway. i've been thinking about getting a mac for a while now.

littleRichard,
what did you snag for a new PC...I am shopping and interested in what people are buying these days.

I bought a barebones kit from www.tigerdirect.com and assembled it myself, it's really the only way to go if you want to get something that truly smokes for a decent price.

AMD 1700+, 640mb, gf2 video card = $300. No operating system but the install for that was pretty easy. The caveat is to look for kits that have AGP video cards rather than intergrated. I recently added another geforce4 PCI and have a dual monitor setup.

Of course...I never get to use it now as I'm at work but Kay seems to enjoy it greatly... :\

That's a great looking machine but I'm way too cheap to spend that much money on something like that...how's the case though? One thing that truly rocks about Macs is the case and how easy it is to get into them.

Did anyone ever get the Mac cube? They were wild to open up, had a handle that would pop up and then you pulled all of the guts out in a solid mass and could do what ever you needed to do, then you just pressed it back in. Very Star Trek.

mine is a little different than the one there. the case is different, i upgraded the ram and i have a radeon 9700 instead of the invidia graphics card.

it's nice but the fans are really loud. if i was buying another now i'd probably get a dell just because of how loud the thing is.

the case is nice. it's easy to open and there is a ton of space inside. plus it looks nice.

it was pretty expensive. i thought about buying parts and building one myself. but in the end i didn't want to worry about something going wrong when i built the machine. plus i'm just lazy and didn't want to deal with it.

yes those G5's are looking tasty :). Hating life cause we just upgraded with 5 new G4's :(. "Um, apple. These are not what I thought they would be, we need to exchange for something with a little more heat". I read that these are supposed to have 9 internal fans. The computer that doubles as an oven, get a cookie when I work hard enough :).

not only 9 internal low speed fans for baking, but a built in brewmeister tap.

littleRichard, I was thinking about an alienware rig, but am worried about your comments on the loud fans. wonder if that is common with all their gear.

vilehelm, i like the idea of assembling things yourself...just afraid that i will screw something up...are you are real computer techy, or is it something a person with limited experience can do (i have installed sound cards, memory chips and things like that, so have been under the hood before)

if you've gone in and replaced parts, you shouldn't have any problem with doing an entire build.

It's easy and it comes with instructions, buying the barebones kits allows for a better deal on all of the components. It's educational too. The only problem I had was not snapping my graphics card in place all the way.

I highly reccomend it, no that hard at all. If you have a machine already take a look at it on the inside, really you're just plugging a few peices together aand screwing the motherboard into place.

Putting the fan on the processor chip was a little freaky but not that hard.
