using guides for masks

another stupid question...

is there a way to animate a mask using a motion guide at the same time?

3 layers: guide, mask and obj in that order. Mask is working great, but i'd like to animate the mask in a certain fashion; along a path to be precise. am i forced to keyframing the mask instead? will mc work better?

No there isn't, althought if you put the object and its guide in an MC and put the MC under the mask, that might help a bit.
