button animations

I have used buttons a lot and know them pretty well. However what i want to know is how do they do those smooth over and out animations. In other words when you remove your mouse the animation does not just instantly dissappear. What I want is something like waht they have on the button at http://www.2advanced.com. At that site when the mouse is removed from the button the animation continues to play.
