well, as far as layout, i think it looks nice, but the thing is, it is confusing, it took me a while to figure out where to go and what to do, think about making the nav a little easier to understand, a website can totally lose flavor when the nav ruins it. i like your idea though, using the subway as a subject matter, see what you can do with the nav other than what you have now,

the other thing is, the site, being 700 some k, is big, really big for a dial up, i have broad band and it still took a little too long to load, i have seen sites that a beautifully developed and still loaded quickly, see where you can go with that.
