Testing Connection

I am making a game with a group of people using flash mx and we have made our first scene to detect if you are connected to the internet or not. We have tried all sorts of codes but we're still open to any suggestions

Can you ask them if they are connected? Or you could upload a .swf or text file and see if you can talk to it.
