Button in a movie clip does not work

Well, i have created a button and i placed it in a movie clip.
Then i place the movie clip on the main stage, but when i test the movie the button does not perform what i wanted...

- add a hit state to your button
- name your instance
- apply the action to the instance

jbsykes is right, but some better advice is to go throught the tutorials that come with Flash, and the tutorials on this website. They might take you a month or so to get through them all, but you will have a plethora of newfound knowledge that will allow you to direct yourself in working with flash.
