what exactly do you mean?
a search engine for words used on the site?

i guess so.. for example...

my University site has a "search" feature http://www.temple.edu

I'm not sure how it works. But some how they are using google.

So if I type a word or phrase, it will search for it within http://www.temple.edu and not other places.

I"m not sure how it is done but that is one of the things I need to figure out.

I know theres a way to get a google package for your site. Let me dig around on their site for details. One has a google symbol, and its free, and the other one you can pay for to leave the symbol out.

EDIT: This might help, let me keep looking: http://www.google.ca/apis/

that is really cool spriggan.

I still need to find out how to do searches within the site only and not have it googled the whole world wide web.

Thanx.

I think if you set up a google account you can get that option to only search your site, but it probaly costs money. If you don't care if it's by google or not have a brouse here and see if anything catches your eye

The professor I am working for what something more complicated...

He wants some kind of online query thing....for his site.
He is involve is this demographic research.

People are suppose to do these queries and it is suppose to generate a report for 'em on the fly.

One of my classmates told me to look into Crystal Reports. Don't know mux about it, but it looks promising.

If you are dealing with the Flash site with the search capability, you could try this...

ok... he wants me to implement a search index thingy...

Exactly like "help files".

For example.

If you open help file for MS word, there are tabs like "Contents" , "Answer Wizard" , "Index" ...

Well...i'm not sure how to implement this for site...but here are the tools he has available for me to use.

PHP, ASP, and CGI
Oracle or mySQL

Well...will figure out I guess.

Well... One way to have it done will be to find some poor undergrad student who can do almost everything and have him do all the job and you get the credit for it... ;)If you open help file for MS word, there are tabs like "Contents" , "Answer Wizard" , "Index" ...Hm... Go to http://www.msn.com and click on the 'HELP' on the top right corner of the screen... Maybe that's what he wants???

Looks like that help screen has nothing to do with Flash, but it sure look like the outputs from the database or XML file that gets parsed and generated by the server side script... and I don't think it should be that hard for a genius like yourself... ;)

Hm... What is that armx extension???
http://www.msn.com/panehelp.armx?H_VER=1.7&SEARCHTERM=hm_reach&S_TEXT=For%20help%20using%20this%20MSN%20Home%20pa ge%2C%20click%20a%20topic.&v1=http%3A//www.msn.com&v2=&tmt=msncomv8

interesting...i wonder what that is too.

I think this will be fun. I will be like my project course all over again.

Remember the night I stayed up working on it b4 the deadline. And you were helping me figure out a stupid mis-spelling error with the "calendar"

hehe

:D

Right now, he got me working on html stuff....but he wanted me to keep in mind the big picture. So I'm just looking into things as I go along.

I'll just present the idea about Crystal Reports and that link you just posted for MS.

And I'll let him decide...Everytime I bring state options to him...
He always ask me, what works best for you. *sigh*
I usually just go with what is easier for me...may not be the most efficient. *hehe*

Anyways, I'll just complie up some info on this Crystal Report thing....and see what I can do w/ using php and xml to replicate the help index thing.

thanx.

But keep posting ideas, if you guys have any.

I would like it if it was flash. *hehe...would give me more experience in flash.

Huh... That's a pay site??? I didn't know... ;)

I googled for the 'armx extension' and the first one that came was the given link which did not require any login information or whatever... However if I click on that given link directly, it forwards me to the login section... Interesting, eh???

So, just google for the 'armx extension'
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=armx+extension&btnG=Google+Search
and the title says 'New file extension .armx'... ;) Remember the night I stayed up working on it b4 the deadline. And you were helping me figure out a stupid mis-spelling error with the "calendar"YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE SAID THIS!!!
I just spend one hour to figure out what the substr() function was not working and finally found out the typo in there, darn it... :(
