::: making boundaries for racing game :::

i'm trying to make boundaries for my racing game but can't get it right.
i've downloaded a sample .fla but can't seem to figure it out right for my own game. i know what needs to happen but just can't get it working. i want the car to slow down when it crosses the edge of the road and goes off the track ----

if anyone can give me the link of a tutorial, tell me what to do or have a look at the .fla i'd be very grateful

On your car mc - just put this code at the bottom of it:


if(this.hitTest(_root.walls) == true)
{
speed *= 0.8;
}
