Any insight on how this was done? If it is masking, that is some very complex masking.

this is a frame by frame animation
u drawe what u want, make it good for some frame
convert these to a key frames
erase a bit of it in each frame
reverse the frame
play it

I remember doing that in Flash 4 & 5 for 3d objects. That usually yielded huge file sizes.

I haven't done it myself but I have seen it on sites where you can draw something with the drawing API and you could then playback your drawing and the swf would retrace your steps. Sounds easy enough. Would that be a logical way of doing that? Seems like it would take less time and the file size would be considerably smaller.
