Can standalone Flash exe output TXT file or GIF?

Is there any way for a standalone Flash exe to output a txt file so a session (e.g. in a game) can be continued at a later stage, e.g. from a CD?

Also, any way of outputting a GIF grab from the Flash movie?

no.. flash can't write to an external text file, or output any image format. However for saving and restarting a game check out the SharedObject object. I've never used it but it should help you restart a game from where you left off.
