I'm a flash designer and know pretty much nothing about director. A client wants a cdrom and although I know director is the way to go, I'm wondering if flash might be a viable alternative. Has anyone ever done a flash cdrom? Any thoughts on one vs. the other?

you can certainly do a Flash CD ROM, it often depends on content and whether Flash is up to the job.

well, it's a pretty basic cdrom. The only thing is there will be a 30 second video. You think flash video will be able to handle it on a cdrom? Can you autoexecute on both mac and pc with flash?

Flash or Director, the autostart is the same
For video, though, Director is the way to go. Flash has horrible memory management and video isnt really video in Flash... its Flash video, which I guess is a sort of video (it is in 'Flash' terms), but poorly done and can often cause Flash to crash, especially for larger movies

Dont forget Flash can play in Director. If you want, you can do most of the dirty work in Flash and play it within Director and just switch over to director stuff when its time to play the video. (be aware that there is a slight performance hit for Flash when doing so though)
