Flash and Databases

Can Flash read from databases? If so, could someone please post a link to a tutorial showing how to do it? I'm not going to be the one creating the Flash animation, a friend is, so I need something to show him. I just need to know before I continue with the siie design.

flash can call other scripts which can query databases and return results. see the 'loadVariables interaction' tutorial on this site for more info... but as I say, flash just uses another script, it can't interact directly (that I know of).

Just seen this post and I thought of an idea. A few of you might have seen http://www.flashforums.com which is my current project which is obviously a lot of flash interecting with scripts and databases. I could write a tutorial for the site about flash retriving varables from a database via asp and then posting variables back into the db if you think it would be a good one to have because I see quite a few questions based on that.

Actually I would really like to see a flash /php tutorial interacting with a database.. But then again, Im not gonna write it so :D
