I'm back with more dummy questions....
Ok, The preloader was working fine when i was loading just a simple jpg like in intermediate tutorial05. Then i worked it into my real file as a seperate starter scene. Now it takes forever to load and it starts at like 50% when testing it at 56K, and the whole thing looks screwy
Where have i gone wrong? Please help

View the "Bandwidth Brofiler", maybe your preloader is big in size so Flash have to load it before. And the preloader starts at 50% or some value...
I had this problem before, hope it helps you.

Also, have you added any components?

Ok...i'm going to attach the preloader file without the movie behind it (because that is too big). Hopefully someone can tell me if my preloader is too big because i looked at the bandwidth profiler and it made little if any sense to me.
Also, not to make myself seem even more dumb than i already do but what is a component?
Thanks,
tina

the file seems to be working fine for me. I did however change your preloader just because, not big thing. You may want to check the scene names to make sure your code is going to the right scene name....

Is it possible for a scene to be to big for a preloading scene to handle?
Is this my problem? Please help, I just don't know what else to do

The reason the preloader bar was not functioning correctly is because you didn't give it an instance name and it was also running to frame 200  instead of 100. It's been fixed.

Thanks Warrior, but it still takes the preloader several seconds to appear and it still starts its count around 50
You did, however help me fix the bar problem i was having...now when it starts counting in the middle so does the bar.
But my main problem still remains the time it takes my preloader to start. Oh and i should clarify that the file I posted isn't the actual file I'm using. I had to strip alot out so that i could post it.
Maybe my scene is too big. I don't know anymore. If it were too big, how would I fix that?

I've decided to attach a snapshot of my bandwidth profiler. Hopefully that helps someone help me :) Because looking at it myself doesn't seem to do much good.

Do you have anything attached in the library like sound, movie clips and so on. If you do then that could be the problem. How big is the file and can you e-mail it to me?

i do have a super small sound, but it isn't like a song or anything. it's just an effect over a button.
zipped the .fla is 2.5MB, i'd be glad to email it to you if you are able to receive files that big.
thanks so much for your help

Hey what's up :D
I fixed your problem. I don't need to e-mail it to you as I can point out the errors and you can fix them on your side. The problem is the Flash UI Components are set for "Export For ActionScript" and "Export in First Frame".
All you have to do is uncheck the "Export in First Frame" but leave the "Export For ActionScript".

Great.
Gosh I would never have thought to do that myself. It still takes a few seconds for the preloader to load, but now it starts at like 20% instead of 50% so thats way better.
Thanks a bunch. I really apprieciate all your help.

OK...I've decided that it really does bother me that it still takes a while to load and starts at 20%.
What else can I try to resolve this?
Also I plan to add several other scenes...will this affect my preloader at all?
Why is this "simple" stuff so darn hard for me :)

Ok, try and not link anything in the library. Don't link anything and see what happens.

Ok by not linking anything, I thought you meant to uncheck both now instead of just unchecking "export in first frame".
If that's wrong please let me know because I'm totally just guessing :)
It didn't help any though...still starts at around 25% or 30%, and I don't know if this is supposed to happen but after I unlink everthing and test it when I return back to the stage and check the library they are both checked again.
Thanks for your help again, and I'm sorry to be wasting so much of your time.
