Buttons under layers

When i have buttons which are hidden behind another layer they are still active and clickable. is there a way aroung that without using a mask layer. (I can't use a mask layer since inside the buttons there are dynamic text fields which i don't want to embed)

put the buttons withing movieclips. the MCs have 2 frames. frame 1 has the button and a stop() action, frame 2 is blank with a stop() action. when you load content above the buttons, send the movieclips which contain the buttons to frame 2 to stop hem being clickable.

Hi Jesse, i understand what you mean but that's not what i need, i don't want to hide the button because it is in a movieclip that scrolls. it is just that i can't use a mask (because of the dynamic text) so i put another layer on top of the buttons that hides the movieclip where i don't want it to show.
here check this link http://www.y-ale.com/work right now to avoid the problem i made on the other layer (which is under layers with buttons and stuff) a big button that does nothing so the buttons that scroll under the layer won't be clickable. but that is an ugly solution,
Please reply if you have any idea how i can make it more clean (I think its kind of stupid having the hand point over almost the whole navigation bar.
