early design idea

I am doing a few mock ups of an idea for a some ones site.

I had the idea of making the site look like a Hi-Fi MP3 plare type thing as its for a music based business.

However i am now doubting the design and begining to think it looks a little cheesy..

And heres a quick flash animated version which took about an hour or so obviously when finished thered be more buttons, text etc etc (note its a lower quality image than the above designs for size issues as its only a mock up)

All i wanna know is basically has this design descended into the realms of cheesy bevels and crap....you kow what i mean i hope.

any opinions welcome

In my opinion the colored version looks the better of the two, and looks good. For the Flash animation, I wouldn't make the boxes blink as they do in the beginning, but I'm all about subtlety.

It think it looks really nice. Maybe the text is a little washed out. Could be slightly darker imho.

Very nice, go with the coloured one. I agree about that blinking at the start, get rid of it. The feel of the rest of the site is soft, but that is more abrupt. Hope you get what I'm trying to say.

looks cool, but if you are going to have them flash, have the first one flash, and instead of disappearing, make it stay there.*

Also, have the way the writing comes on the same as the way the rest of it appears, but i don't think it will work if the main part flashes on. so, if the top bar fades on, and then the second bar fades on after the top bar is fully faded on, have the writing fade on to the top bar, and then have the writing on the second bar fade on after the first writing is finished. But only start the writing appearing when the bars have all appeared themselves, like you have done.

my idea was only to add some text to a textless Jpeg so it gave some idea of how it might look, thanks for pointing it out though but no it wouldnt all look like that.

I just quickly threw up this example of what i mean:

Yeah i agree that would look better but it was only a quick mock up so dont think ill change that until i make the site for real.
