Go to http://www.paypaldev.com/ and search for some options you can have... I am looking for some as well... So, when you are done with what you have found out, make sure that you make full report of it... :D

Yup... If somebody is going to send somebody some $$$, then you normally need either credit card or bank information to wire it... Paypal does that service and charges the service fee to the people who recieves money... People use it because it is easier to accept credit card mainly... They don't have to setup a merchant account or such to get the credit card from the customer... Bad part is that somebody who is sending you money has to have PayPal account as well...
Well... Go to PayPal.com and try to send me some money and you will see what it is... :D

well, as far as ease of use I would agree - as far as best support team - I have my horror story.
Basically, PayPal made a mistake with my account which cost me quite a bit of money. I spoke to them over the phone and they apologized profusely (on more than one occasion) and said they would get to work on fixing it - for me to talk to my bank as well and see how they could help.
My bank said it was not their fault so they could not help - which I already knew would be their answer (rightly so). Got back in touch with Paypal and they said it was not their fault! I refered to our previous conversations and they said they were "reading me transcripts" that were the opposite of what happened! I told them what they had previously told me and they asked me if I had any proof. "What kind of proof would I have?" I asked them. "Well, phone recordings maybe?" Phone recordings??? was he serious? Besides the fact that thats illegal in my state - who does that? They then got very rude with me and told me there was nothing else they could do. When I said I wanted to close my account they told me to "do it online" and then terminated our conversation.
I never cussed at them, and I rarely got loud - only when they bassically called me a liar. :mad: :( :mad:
If you're still reading this, just thought I would warn you - though they are easy to use, widely used, and most likely you'll probably never run into a problem - just make sure you record all conversations with them just in case. :p

Obviously what splict mentioned or similar happens more than we know or we want to hear... :(

Yeah, I've had some issues with paypal. None of them have been as bad as that story though. Plus, I think it might have been the fault of the person whom I was transferring funds to, not paypal's.

Seems nasty stuff. Sounds like they have to incorporate some new client-curtesy guidelines :rolleyes: :).

Hi All,
I have been working on adding Paypal into our Flash application. It's pretty simple from our angle, we are just building a LoadVars object and sending our data to Paypal in a new window.
Biggest problem I have, is Paypal accepts a form field called "return", which is the URL which Paypal will send the user to when they have completed their payment.
Unfortunately when I try and set up:
var ppTest = new LoadVars();
ppTest.return = "http://someurl.com";
It fails on the second line as return is a reserved keyword in Actionscript. Does anyone have any ideas on how we could get around that?
Thanks!

Did you try this???
ppTest["return"] = "http://someurl.com";

I didn't, but I will - thanks for the suggestion!
EDIT: Yup, it works - thanks very much!!

i stopped trying with paypal since finding out that if u live in ireland the money in ur account is untouchable by law. that is u can never ever withdraw it, u have to change ur address to another country to do it and prove the u reside in this other country - no immediate plans to change this!!
ireland has 1 of the best IT infrastructures in the world too

I understand that WorldPay has similar (as well as more advanced) interfaces as Paypal (ie. can submit POST information to do a transaction) - does anyone here know anything about them?

World Pay is a merchant account though and is not free. It IS a LOT better than Pay Pal though.
Sites using pay-pal do not look as professional as those that don't to me, because it comes accross as them not making enough money to be able to set up a proper merchant account.

Interesting reading. I am currently developing a PayPal interaction with Flash (see my thread about my experience with a portion of the form here: http://www.actionscript.org/forums/showthread.php3?t=49893)
I am probably going about it the long way, but this is my first ActionScript experience ever, so I think I faired pretty well. I'll post the link to the finished product when I make it public (which should be in about 10 minutes assuming the rest of testing goes well...)
Now if only I could figure out a way to send the user back to a particular part of my Flash movie. Any ideas, guys?

Um... The simple answer would be 'use gotoAndPlay() function', but I don't know if that's what you are looking for... What are you trying to do???
(This would be probably best if you create another thread in the scripting forum, not this forum... :D)
