Tutorial #40 is awesome. It works in Flash 6.0 but not in Flash 7.0. Does anyone know how to make it work in Flash 7?

yup
for that in Flash MX 2004 we use:
createClassObject(Component, "New Name", Depth,{Initialaization})
read the compnent manual
