That's very, very cool.
For me personally the same situations don't come up quite enough to write those sorts of things but there's definitely a use in production situations. Think about product lines for catalogs...etc.
Great tip and interesting development.

yeah I was resizing LOTS of images for the web and was sick of having to run seperate actions for landscape and portrait images - this script was perfect!

just an update
found out an easier way of doing what I wanted without the need for an if else statement
see
File / Automate / Fit Image...
