yup, that's the only Q*Bert I know of - not too common of a name :p Why? I'll be sure to post it when I'm finished if you're interested. Or maybe you were just asking why I'm bothering since its already been done a million times (there I go with that million again ;) )

Well... Not to highjack the thread, so I'll be brief... :)

WHY??? Cuz, I was half way done doing that very same game when I was playing with F5 a while ago and never got to finish that project, but I played that game when I was young and I found the game again in the MAME stuff so, I thought that I'd make it in Flash... That's why... :)
If you ever make one, yeah, go ahead and tell us where to snag it... :D

Sorry, netrix, we're still listening if you have some questions though :D

Yeah, I asked my sis what her current favorite game on her phone was and she said Qbert. That used to be one of my favorite too, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Ran through everything up until (not including) the enemies/AI in my free time in about 3 days. so I had to find MAME (my xbox is broken) to study the enemy AI and then I wanted to recode everything into classes so I wouldn't have to redo everything for my next game. Now I got my new book and a new client. Long story long: I'll probably end up in the same spot you are with it. :D I'll probably post it up here before I even finish, though, just to get some feedback - thanks for the interest. :)

Hehe... Sounds great... Sounds great that you've got a new client, and sounds great that you're at least half done with the game... and sounds great that you finally broke the XBox... Oops... I'll take it back... :p

Tell you what... Cut some of your AS.org time and I am sure you can finish the game in no time... :D

Finally broke the xbox? whats that mean??? Actually that is good cause it wastes too much of my time. (besides, its the 2nd one I've broke :o ) Cut my AS time? yeah I'd be done with it already, then, but its pretty addictive here. I hope you're not just trying to get rid of me  :D :D

Ouch... Your second XBox was broken??? What's wrong with you??? How did you break it??? I don't understand how you did that... It's true that the game machines takes away big time though...

Hehe... Yeah... Cut your AS.org time if you need to do something... I have no intention of getting rid of you though... ;)
Besides, you won't be able to be in that status even though I try to because it is so addictive... :D

Well, I modded my first one so I could use it as a jukebox/snes/server. My snes controllers don't work so great anymore and I like the save featues on emulators. Plus I could hook my xbox up to our living room stereo and play both me and my roomates collection of hundreds of cds right from remote control (in mp3 format) including cd covers visualizations etc.

Anyways, apparently the mod chip started having a problem with it (after about a year using it) and I thought it was the xbox that was screwed. So I put the chip in my roommates box and it fried it too so I had to run out and buy him a new one. :( I'm gonna figure out whats wrong with them though and fix them so I can use them as a test server on my LAN instead of having to use the ones I pay for bandwidth on.

netrix Since we totally steered your thread, I promise to help you with your questions tommorrow if you want :D

Ah... MOD chip... That's where everything has gone bad... :D

Why do you want to use XBox to be the 'server' on your LAN??? I'd rather go get old PII or something from somewhere and make that to be the server and don't touch the XBox... But then, trying to screw up those stuff is pure fun... I agree with you... ;)

Let me see if I can split this thread... It's of no use to anybody but us right now... :D

Why not?? I love taking things apart - that in itself was a lot of fun. :) and anyways, my initial use was to play all the old video games whose systems of mine are stored away or not too functional, or are arcade machines that you can't find anymore. Also as a jukebox for the main room (which I could also access from any other computer too)

The server thing came afterward. to me its a great benefit over an old comp. Its a one touch fast boot, I don't need a dedicated monitor for it (TV), its small enough to cram in the corner, - its now only $179 and it happens to be a current generation video game system, too ;) last time I bought one, it also came with 3 video games plus a couple months of xbox live which is way more fun than it might sound (live headset trash talking :) ) I could go on about other reasons but I doubt anyones that interested. I've got a few old comps anyways but there is always something wrong with each of them. These have been pretty much worry free The modchip incident happened when I moved to my new apartment. I'm guessing it didn't handle the moving around too well.

Geez... I actually am more towards your first XBox... How do you play those old games over the XBox??? I am not suf if I am getting the jukebox idea right or not... There is only one DVD drive on th emachine... So, do you make your own DVD disk which contains tons of MP3 files and have it play??? Anyways, it sounds fun... :)

And, all those stuff you've mentioned on the XBox server over old computer server are valid, I think... :) My PII 300 takes about 5-7 minutes when I boot up the computer, yet XBox is just a button click and it is up less than a minute not to mention the deal in the size... :D
that XBox live stuff sounds real fun... I am not the multi player game fan, but I think it'd be a good experience... :) I am sure that the market is going to only grow on that gaming part... The issue will be how broad and fast your ISP is... and that issue is going to be resolved sooner or later... I've got myself PS2 last christmas, but I hardly had time to play with it... :( I heard that there is similar one with PS2 but I have not tried it myself yet... Some day, I guess... :)

Okay... I am going to wrap up the things that I've been doing and get some nap for tomorrow... Good night and talk to you later... :)

i wanna put linux on my bro's xbox to see what i runs like, hear that its 'OK' running with apache from the console, but it runs the window managers rather slowly, even the light 1's.

Hm... Things are very interesting and I see lots of people who can't wait to mess things up for pure fun... :D
Hey, let us know what happens when you do that, stealthelephant... :)

yeah, you can use it through window managers, its not too bad - just like a real old computer - but its really not all that great IMO. Doesn't hurt to try though..... Wait a minute, what I am I saying, it can hurt to try ;)

If you want a keyboard for it, microsoft is giving free adapters for USB to Xbox to use with a USB keyboard, because of Phantasy Star Online. Check out their website. You just need to pay shipping (instead of having to rip stuff apart and splice wires like I did ;) ) Let us know how it goes!

it runs on a 700 Celeron chip (or Duron) depending on version and has an alright vid card so performance should not be as crappy as that though, linux ran fine on my p166 :)

yeah, actually i thought it ran okay at the point when i was using it, but there were a lot of bugs and slow down related to video issues, hardware etc (which would make it perform worse than a comparable computer). I haven't kept up with it much since my box broke but I do check in occassionally, and I know that most of those issues have been sorted and it should be a lot smoother experience. :)
