enter key question

i have a enter key that when pressed send vaiables to php back to flash ..(chat,flash&php) now the probelm is when you click the btn it displays in the output window line by line when you click enter on your key board it makes a SPACE in between lines. how /where should i look to fix this .
i want o get rid of the space ..any ideas where to start .
