No, it's free.

I'll have to find out more details if there will be a raffle for those who registered.

There might be food, too. I say might, because the admin doesn't allow food in his computer labs.
So, if there is food, it will be before or after the presentation.

Will you come pixelwit? I'm sure you will ask great questions during the Q&A session.

You need to add more detailed information on what'll be on that meeting on the website... There wasn't enough information in the website... :(

Speaking of the raffle... I have won my Macromedia T-shirt last time when I went there... :D

There is no detail information about the presentation...
I was told it should have a board appeal among all different levels of web designers and developers.

As for the raffle and food, still a maybe.

CB, are you thinking of driving up to Philly :D

Um... I used to go to the monthly meeting at the WAMMO for several times and they always had their schedule set up on their website and they do the emailing so that we know what we are going to learn beforehand... You might want to push them to be abit more organized...(No offence though...)

Um... Philly??? I don't think so... I do drive 80 miles a day and that's pretty much enough driving for me... :D

boyzdynasty

CB, we are organized...[locally]

This is not a local thing...it's a world thing...We have no control over what will be presented.

Macromedia Headquarters in California is doing the presentation live three times during the day (12noon, 7pm, 10pm eastern standard time). I will be a part of the 12noon presentation. The managers of the Coldfusion and Flash groups will be part of the 7pm presentation.

And we will view it via BREEZE.

They will not let us know what will be presented. :(
But I'm sure it will be good stuff. :)

Faffy, i was checking out the list of flash designer...and the 'A' section had a lot of designers from Egypt. When will you be up there? :D
You should start a user group in your area. "If you build it, they will come..." <hehe>

The calgary one might be lacking as the Flames are winning the series tonight and the game starts at the same time as the meeting. This city will be insane tonight!
( not a huge hockey fan myself, last time I went to a game, Gretzky was playing for the Oilers )

The meeting was a bit ...bad...hopefully the second time around they do the presentation will be better.

The VP of Platforms was going on and on about their marketing and trend stuff....it was annoying.

He spent over 30mins about that subject then later pass on to another person who started doing demos.

A lot of people at the meeting was cranky...

hehe...We had a good turn out.

We raffled a MM bag. I didn't win :(
But one of the computer services guys who works for Temple one.

Australia User Group was really funny....

They attended the noon presentation (EST), and the time in Aus was 2am...lol...

They are some dedicated "die hard fans" of MM. ;)
Also, they said they were hosting at a BAR. *lol*

Philadelphia's attendance was very very good. We are among the top participates reporting huge attendance for this meeting. :D

I went to the MMUG presentation in LA last Wed. on the 19th (I know I'm late with this thread).

They didn't talk about the flash software at all -- although I think Contribute or something uses flash...anyhow, I was kind of bored with the whole presentation.

boyzdynasty
05-27-2004, 07:19 PM
yea...it was boring!!
very disappointed...but I was a bit impress with "Flash Paper"...it's similiar to Adobe reader but much faster.

I like FlashPaper and think it's a great idea which has lots of potential but one thing I read about and didn't like was the fact that you need to keep all the viewing controls in the movie as well as some sort of reference to Macromedia. Makes it tough to seamlessly fit it into a site unless your site looks like it was designed by Macromedia.

interesting view point.

I think I'll look into it some more.

As for FLEX, I'm not really sure what to make of it...but I'm going to an MMUG meeting in June @ Villanova University. Kevin Hoyt will be doing some demos on it.

And BEN FORTA (CF GOD ;-) ...not that I am a big CF fan...he will be in the philadelphia area on June 29 to speack to local user groups on CF Blackstone...the current name for it is Blackstone but not official name for release of the new CF.

I tried FlashPaper last year and it wasn't that impressive. For me, it would be great for flow charts created in Visio (a Microsoft software). Some of those flow charts are huge and complicated. And when I saved it as a Flash Paper, the file size was definitely smaller than if I saved it as a PDF. However, the problem is that there's a limit as to how much you can magnify it -- and with my flow chart, it didn't magnify it that well. So I'm still stuck with Acrobat.

Of course, maybe the next version of FlashPaper is different and better...

Are you able to modify FLASH Paper docs in FLASH b/c it's a swf?

pixelwit

You can, but according to the FlashPaper EULA you're not allowed to.

Hey CB :)

How did you get to be certified as a Flash developer?? I noticed your name on the page below and thought that was one heck of an honor, did it take you long?? :D

Oh, nevermind...I found it :)

hehe, I took the sample questions and got 7 out of 10, which is the minimum passing percentage to become certified...maybe I should study a bit before spending $150 on the test, I'd like to actually do good than just barely get by  I wouldn't even be able to pay for it, I'm not old enough to have a credit card yet!! :p :D

Some of these class questions had me kind of stumped, I've looked at help files on the internet that talk about "Object.registerClass" probably 150 times, and still can't get a definite idea of what it does...oh well, not there yet :)

Eric :p

Well... I don't even have a chance to use any AS 2.0 stuff, yet I've got certified for 2004... So, that means that the exam is not really that bad as long as you have general idea on what's going on within the Flash...

The only hard thing about the exam, in my opinion, is that some of the questions were talking lots of things that go with some 'real experience' which sorta stumped me abit... But then, those questions might be addressed in the prep book as well... So, yeah, go check it out and see what happens... (Ask it from your dad as a christmas present??? :))

I think I'll wait till sometime around my birthday (March 24th) to take the test. By then I should know enough to do pretty good on the test :D

Right now I'm writing my first class (actually my second class, my first class just traced "Hello World" in the output window). The class I'm writing is a gradient class, so you just have to input the beginning color and the end color and other properties (i.e. - rotation, width, height, X pos, Y pos) and flash will automatically draw the gradient on the stage. So far I have it working but for some reason certain colors don't really work for the gradient. For instance, I can draw a gradient that goes from Yellow to dark Blue, but if you give it the colors light green and black, it comes out looking really weird, and about 90% of the gradient is black and it transfers very quickly into green, kind of confusing and frustrating

No idea when the class would come in handy, but I've never seen it done before so I took it as a personal challenge

this is a very easy one mate

CyanBlue

Yeah... As I was saying on some other thread, the example is not really hard ones... If I remember correctly, the testing center will choose some random test set for you when you are there... (Not sure if they use Math.random() or random() though... :D)

I am sure they have mixed different difficulty level questions in it, but it is not always the case... So, if you are lucky, you will get fairly easy questions and maybe you will get most hard questions if you are not... For me, FMX exam questions were 'really' hard, yet FMX 2004 one was fairly easy that I could pass it even though I was hardly using FMX 2004 at the time... Know what I mean??? :D

I am sure you won't have much problem passing the exam, farafiro... Go take the exam for fun... I don't know howelse it can be good for us... :)

Is it even worth taking CyanBlue?? Did you seem to get more jobs or any other benefits after taking the test??

Eric :D

CyanBlue
12-17-2004, 10:36 AM
Well... I guess it all depends on why you are taking the exam... :)
I did take the exam to see where I am... The exam could be a good measure to decide my level... That's all I wanted... I did not take the exam to get more money from the company or to get more job offers... Know what I mean??? :)

As for what I just said... The certificate should not be used to decide where the job candidate is... It can be something to consider, but it does not tell everything about the candidate... What it matters is the portfolio... If you or any other people are taking the exam to get better compensation, I want to warn them that they should spend that time and energy to make their portfolio better because portfolio should be the most important thing that tells about the candidate... My 2 cents, of couorse... :)

mmm..pi..3.14..
12-17-2004, 07:52 PM
Yeah, I know what you mean, I'd also like to know where I am "skill-wise", but I don't think it's worth taking the test now, since I know I'm not advanced enough to need a portfolio quite yet ;)

CyanBlue
12-17-2004, 11:46 PM
I think you should be able to pass the exam with no problem... :)
