Best way to advertise

I wanted to know what people use to advertise their sites. I have used google adword in the past, as well as overture. I was hoping to see what others have used to generate traffic to their site. I'm also looking at using a search engine optimization program that guarentees top 10 placement for 5 key words.

Any feedback would be great.
