I have not been around here for a while (been in and out of the cool-sites forum though), for good reason.

I am in the final 4 weeks of my Sports Science degree (trying to get myself a 2:1). I applied to do a Masters (MCs) in Software Engineering in London (Westminster) and i got a letter yesterday saying that i was on. I start in September - one small technicality to sort out with my current degree - but fingers are crossed.

I have (as you can tell my the title of my current degree) no formal (or otherwise) teaching in anything computer related - so hopefully this will really give me a chance to crack on and contribute more to this site.

My modules (if anyone is interested) are as follows (bit different from Sports Science):

Object Oriented Programming

Systems Architecture

Data Structures and Algorithms

Software Engineering Context

Event Driven & Internet Programming

Object-Oriented Development

Database Systems

Software Development (Project)

Just need to finish and do well in the last 4 weeks of my Sports work and i'll be ok.

As from next month, i shall be at home (not at uni) and i will be commuting. This means wireless connection!! Wohaay! But it also means lectures 9-5 everyday for a year! Its very very intense.

Regards, snapple :)

Third that... :)

I'm glad you've found a good course for it... I was looking for a place where I could do my Ph.D for a while around my last quarter at school, but I couldn't find any... Well... My time is over... I've got to take care of $$$ thing first... :(

Good luck to you, snapple... Don't forget to stop by from time to time... :)

Thanks very much guys - just by way of an explanation (a rather self indulgent one) as to why i have been somewhat illusive of late.

Pom - you hit on the head, geeksville indeed! I look forward to it, the chance to have some formal teaching, and in an area like that too. Dr CyanBlue, you make it sound like i will be here even less, hopefully it will mean the opposite, although the workload is going to be tough, so who knows. McGiver, thanks for your support, i shall ensure enjoyment.

Passanger: "Help, help, is there Dr on the plane?"

*CyanBlue stands up*, "ahem, yes, dont panic, i am a Dr"

Passanger: "This man is having a heart attack and is suffering from a punctured lung"

CyanBlue: "Ahh, dont worry, i see th problem, he has his movieclip on the wrong level and he's not calling his XML object properly"
Best regards, snapple :)

Well... We have not seen retrotron much after he went to the Oxford for his Ph.D... So, I just assume that you'd be in the same rail... :(
Of course, if you can spare some bonding time with your lady, you should be able to spend more time at the AS.org... :D

Thanks Subquark - thanks for your 'congrats'

Hmmmmm - retrotron is at Oxford, i shall enquire - i wonder what college (my bro read English at Wadham College), and i pop up there from time to time.

Sports Science ? What is that exactly?

Good Luck. I know how it is when you are reaching the finish line...a lot of emotions stirs up.

All the best!!! :)

Things like learning about muscle groups, health sciences basically, how the body works and how it can go wrong, how to fix injuries, and of course, how they apply to sports. Maybe a little sports psychology too (learning how to deal with tension). I think thats what Sports Sciences is anyway. Tied in with that kind of thing, Snapple, care to explain? :)

Anyway, congrats on that Snapple, AS[org] is behind you 110% :)

Thanks for the 'good lucks' (for want of a better phrase).

Yes, sports sciences can include:

Sports psychology
Sports physiology
Sports sociology

I chose to specialise in Physiology (my opinion the only 'real' paradigm there) - ohhhhh contentious. Seriously though, I have major issues with any other than physiology, unless it’s a true science, it can go and kiss my ass.

Yes, so far example, my Final Year Project was all about the effects of caffeine (trimethylxanthine) and fat utilisation, i had to conduct trials and experiments and write up a lab report about it.

The rest of the time, i learn about everything from the immune system, central nervous system, molecular biology - and everything else about the body you can imagine.

So – I am really looking forward to this MSc – its going to be hard because I (obviously) do not hold a degree in it, and that makes it hard – but I really want to do it.

I most certainly won’t become a stranger here – hopefully, in the not so busy times (if there are any) – I can contribute more here (I am aware that I don’t enough) – I figure a year doing software engineering, whilst working hard in Flash – should see me progress leaps and bounds.

I cannot tell you how much i was packing it about not getting on - there was no reason to let me on at all, i have some good references and a few other good bits and pieces - think they must have taken pitty on me!

Thanks again everyone.
