uploading .fla

I don't understand why we can't upload an .fla file.

I feel quite stupid renaming myfile.fla to myfile.fla.zip and telling the other person to delete the .zip extension...

I think the main reason why FLA file is not allowed is because of the size along with the other reasons that were suggested before... The FLA file tends to be very big if you work on it for a while and sometimes the file size can be saved about 1/2 if you do the Save-As as we all know... Besides that, the hard drive space and the bandwidth are still precious thing... :)

Looks like I forgot to say I didn't want to zip it because that would take even longer... And would force the other person to unzip it...

Sometimes it's helpful uploading examples... but if it makes you loose time....

Weekly I have to download the back-up of the forums DB (which is over 600 mb)
If everyone will zip files then it will reduce the size of the DB

I run the shell command which dumps all DBs and TARs them together with the entire as.org.
So the whole thing is around 620MB (TARed)
1GB uncompressed

It sure is a good idea to keep the backup somewhere on the CD as long as the space is permitted... Of course, probably more than one month old data is not really necessary unless we have a situation where we need to get something specific out of the backup... 100GB??? Phew... That sure is alot... My old computer has 2G hard drive, hehehe... :)

I think vB saves all the file attachments to the database... That's why the database is extremely big... :(

I think in the old days, Jesse mentioned once that he removes all the attachments that 3 or 6 months older
maybe this saves some space

Well... That sure saves the space, but that won't help much about the reason why we post the sample here... The only reason why I post the sample here is because it will be kept here for a long tims so that other people can see what it needs to be done to take care of certain business... If the files are not kept here for a long period, I can just send the sample to whoever needs it and delete it... There is no point of posting it then... :(

because I don't know how many times I've been teaching and a student has said 'hey how do I do this?' and I've been able to go to as.org and download an example and show it to them...

would also mean that people searching for an answer would come across an old thread that contained the answer inside an fla that no longer existed...which would probably piss me off more than not being able to find the answer at all and would lead to large numbers of 'hey can somebody please repost the file does this...' threads...
