kay, I'm redeveloping my site. I have a problem: there's stuff I've designed, there's stuff I've developed and there's stuff where I've done both. I'm sure other's here have probably had similar issues. How would you split it up? All together it's too much for one section and using the word 'both' seems kinda lame. I'm kinda thinking 'design, development, deselopment' or 'dezign, development, dezelopment' (the 'z' so it's more obvious I'm mispelling on purpose) any one have any ideas or suggestions as to a good/fun/interesting way to tackle this? Or should I go with one of my ideas (or are they dumb?) Oh, and there's photography too.
Remember I'm trying to keep it clean and professional!
Thanks all for your interest!

then you probably shouldn't write dezign on your page ;)

Something which could be cool I think.
Take the idea of farafiro, plus:
add a level metter for each category: design and develpment.
Or just one which is going more up or down depending if more design than development.

I think it could it... ;)
My 2 cents.
C ya... ;)

How about 'Projects'? Or 'Global Projects'? 'Full Projects' :/ Something along those lines...

Thanks all, it's certainly going under the portfolio section, it was the subheadings I was struggling with because 'both' sounds lame. Level meter won't work too well for how I'm designing it (though it's a cool option that others could consider) the 'projects' idea is also good. I just have too much stuff (and I'm leaving a lot out)! Thanks for the comment on dezign, my writer roomate came up with it as a possibility but I wanted to hear input on how wonky of an idea it was. I'm thinking I may split it up like this now: web design, web development, marketing collateral (or materials, not sure yet) and photography. I was just hoping of finding a way to word things in a more creative way as opposed to straight up.

maybe something graphical? that would show where your design overlaps your development to represent an area where you've done portions of both?

That's a good idea too but currently I can't wrap my head around how I would achieve consistency with the rest of my buttons. I'm doing rounded corner mac style buttons that do the drop down thing for the sub menus. The sub menu is basically text links with lines separating them.

And there will be descriptions as to my role on each project brought in from XML. If there wasn't so much, I would depend on that but I think splitting it up works better from a user perspective. Also the way the screenshots will be shown is a button controlled scrolling window that adds and removes the neccessary movie clips so that it's easy to add more items. (just drop an item into the library and make a new entry in the XML) The problem with my current site is that it doesn't allow for growth.

by the way, you should make the round image on the site clickable to reach the main site. makes it more intuitive since most people are willing to think as few as possible when visiting a site.

yeah, that's my 'old' site. The new site will not have flash, with a similar image, listing requirements, centered, and the main site a popop.

Nooooooooo,
I didn't understand it some time ago, but I understand now:
popups are evil!
lots of people are using google toolbar or similar.

Sorry, I meant the user clicks to open up a new page whose size is set and toolbars are off.
(I use google too and can see pages set up like this or is it still a bad idea?)
Yes popups are extremely evil and I will never use them unless I absolutely have to. Like on a project I worked on where disgruntled employees deleted the source and we needed to get a message out to the users of the product.

hmm, I still think it's probably better to launch it in the main site in the same window as the original one.
If the employes deleted the source, that's of course another situation :D

yeah, it was a bad scene, total corperate takoever. I was an innocent party, too new to the old environmant to be bitter so I became a 'godsend' too bad they went under.
I just kinda like the idea of the main site seeming like a self contained entity and being able to help the dimwits that think they can press back in the browser to navigate Flash.

to help the dimwits that think they can press back in the browser to navigate Flash. :D I'm quite sure those people deserve to start over and over again till they learn it.
But indeed a good reason for the popup. never really thought about that.
<--still votes against the popup (although it may look so seductive)
