View Full Version : Screen Capture
ok, here's the update on the screen capture component. Unfortunately, I'm only able to get this thing working in IE using ActiveX, because some security guy decided servers shouldnt be allowed to control the client. So, through the clever use of ActiveX, alittle XML, and a back end script I got it working, of course with some bugs. I'm working those out. If anyone thinks they can take what I did and make run on another platform, let me know.

yesssssssssss
looks very interesting
I'm currently debating if I'm going to toss this out there as freeware or what, I had another guy working on it with me and of course he wants to see a return on it. I'm currently trying to convince him to give it over to AS[org], because you guys here have saved me more times than I can count and taught me a lot. The other draw back is sometimes it will prompt the user for the install, I cant get around that. The biggest bug at the moment is that its takes the screen capture of the entire browser window, that should be corrected by monday or so. Hopefully then it will just capture the flash part, or even better, a specified rectangle. There's like 5 of you that are getting this either way.

Nice to hear that you guys are working hard on that...
Here is my take on that... I am sure that people will be making purchases if they find the product useful... There is no doubt about that... The extra click from the user does not bother me at all... My only worry is that the product will not be crossplatform since you are working with the ActiveX... That's more important thing, I think...
I think you should make it more available to the public whether it is AS.org or some other place for marketing purpose... It'd be wonderful if you could create some sort of beta or trial version that people can try without distributing the source code since we don't want that part... We just want something that can help us to build the good product so that we can make good living/career... Know what I mean??? That was just my 2 cents of course... :)
The cross platform part is where my skills start to sputter out. I've never done much unix/linux development. As far making this cross-platform, I dont think it would happen, I couldnt find anything that gave me that ability. Thats why I'm asking if anyone thinks they can take what I have and make it work for the non-windows platforms, let me know. I'm willing to share for the benefit of us all.
What do you think about offering it exclusively at AS[org]? Maybe offer it as shareware and let AS[org] benefit from it?

You know that I cannot help you anything on the project since that's way out of my reach... :D
That's very generous of you/you guys offering the project to the AS.org members, and I am sure we all will be thankful for that, but that's something you guys need to decide... Not that I don't like things that are free, but if any of you guys want to make some $$$ out of it, then you guys need to balance out yourselves before you decide any decision... :)
I like making money as much as the next guy, but realistically, there isnt too much to be made from something like this. Unless I'm under valuing the project. Dont worry, I wont stop trying til I fix the cross platform problem. For now, I guess it will have to do.

Yeah... Cross platform should give you a really big boost... :)
Quick question for you PHP lovers. If I use ActiveX to create a server variable can PHP read and process that variable?
