Do me a favor and change the font you are using to whichever else font that is common like Arial or Verdana and see if it happens again???

I changed it to Wingdings which has some hollow parts to it, and it's still filling some parts in with black

Yeah... I have NEVER seen that in my whole life, and make sure you get it straightened up and fiddle with it...
Sometimes, if you copy the part that is having problem into the new file, it is easier to figure out what the problem is...
If the new file does not give you the same problem, try to use some other fonts for it and possibly install a new font for it and see if that makes any difference...

Maybe it is because u are "group"ing or "break"ing the text ...
Even I am not too sure what ur problem is...I faced a similar one not so long ago... So try fiddling with this:
Click on the text object and press Ctrl+B to "break" or Ctrl+G to "group"...Grouping the entire text or breaking it down to the samllest part might solve the problem(Clicking Ctrl+B/Ctrl+G multiple times would do the trick)...try it out n gimme feedback about it...
Ya...and CyanBlue is right...it does'nt happen with default fonts like arial, verdana, courier ...etc... happens only with other fonts...wonder why?
