tweeening using just Actionscript

Is it possible to perform a 'tween using Actionscript alone?

For instance, clicking on a button changes an MC's color from red to green over the time span of two seconds.

I know how to change the property of an MC using Actionscript but I don't want the change to be instantaneous. I would like the change to happen over time like a traditional 'tween but without using the
traditional method.

You could probably adapt either of them to change the color using getRGB and setRGB.
