I know director is primarily used for a cd-roms. But would anybody tell me why it is good or is not good to use flash to deploy a cdrom or dvd.

If you have a simple presentation with graphics and text, you could use Flash as well. Director is a better choice if you need access to databases or system calls (via xtras). Director is better for video too and has 3D support. Director projector take a longer time to load than Flash projectors. But the functionality in Director is a lot bigger.
