Map zooming and centering

I know this topic has been sort of done to death, but I still haven't really seen someone explain exactly the type of thing i'm looking for. What I want to do is, when a user clicks on a map, the map zooms in and centers the spot where they clicked, all in one gradual motion. Basically what they do here at 24 Hour Fitness:

Does anyone have some sample code or some advice on how to go about doing this? I have some ideas and some things I've been trying, but I don't think I'm going to meet my deadline if I spend too much time trying to reinvent the wheel.

Ok, I pretty much have it figured out, but its not quite right. Can someone show me where I'm "off"? For example, clicking on a dot should zoom in and center the dot. Its zooming in and kind of centering the dot, but not exactly. Is my registration point off in one of my movie clips or something?
