I've two movies that I want to combine to form an interactive menu for browsing book reviews. There are four section headings that the books are split under, and the animation for this is handled by one swf. Each of the four headings then has a scrollable thumbnail thing that eventually will be a click and see more thing. Everything works fine - so what the hell am I doing here? It works fine when there is no connection between the two parts, introduce the connection and the scrollable thumbnail thing ceases to work. It shows, but scroll it does not. I have more than an inkling that this has something to do with using the _root call within the thumbnail thing, and this having been superseeded by it being loaded into level14 of the menu.
For those interested, the files can be found online - both the swf's and fla's. The four part menu without connection to anything else is at

one of the thumbnail things is at
.../books/acuSlide.swf
a brief attempt at linking the two (functioning - or not - for the lower menuBar only) is at
.../books/menu2.swf
for fla's substitute in the above for swf.
Please, please help - I've only been using FLASH for about 10 days, and these files represent a lot of that time. A big pint of their favorite brew to whoever helps (spirits included of course!)
No, don't just click BACK and browse someone else's much more interesting thread - there's someone in need of some severe help here (and for the FLASH as well...)
