what do u mean by protecting? as in make it only readable by a desired application or readable but not writeable/reproducable or simply can't be deleted? cos if is simply you dont want it to be deleted/erased simply use a CD-R and finalize it

I want to accomplish the same thing you do, but don't know how to handle it.
Why you ask?
Because there is quite a bit of information (text) that has to be loaded by Flash, but I don't want everybody just to copy/paste these textfiles straight from the CD-ROM itself.
That's why I want to make it possible to hide/secure certain folders.
Is there such a possibility?

well... why not just encript it?...
if flash can set unbuffered reads and read limits then you proberbly can get some form of program that generates corrupted data and write it to the file... so when flash reads it unbuffered and limited to just before the corrupted data it will be able to stop and use what it has got... but when someone opens it with notepad or something like that then their program is just gonna stop them saying its corrupted?
PS: i'm not sure this is possible... in fact i kinda tilt towards the idea that its not possible
