Send a Gif file from a SWF to a server

I want to do a interactiv game for children where they can draw (like in Paint) and save their drawings sending them to the server. Is this something possible with Flash or do I rather use another software (Director ??) ?

The drawing bit is possible but saving the graphics isn't in Flash. Sorry
