I did version 1 of a client project in flash mx earlier this year. the project contained comboboxes.

i started version 2 of this same project in flash mx 2004. Because I didn't want to re-enter all my data into the dropboxes, I copied the comboboxes from my flash mx version of the project into my new version2. all good, dropboxes were the old boxy looking boxes, but all functioned well.

As it turns out the client is married to the look and feel of the rounded fancy mx2004 dropboxes (after i opened my big mouth and suggested it) so when i delete the old comboboxes in my mx2004 file (stage AND all 99 items from library) and replace with the combobox from the mx 2004 component library and do a publish preview (with labels entered into the new comboboxes or not) the "comboboxes" simply show up as empty white rectangles. i publish to swf or an exe.. still same issue.

erm.. ok. so what is flash so confused about and how do i remedy this issue?

ok.. so i just deleted the dropboxes from the movie, selected, copied and pasted all the frames to a new flash doc, dragged in new combo boxes from the components palette, saved and did a preview and the comboboxes are appearing and functioning as normal.. but now i've got to re-enter all my labels and all that goodness. It still would be interesting and good to know more about what happened there if any of you gurus could explain what might have been happening there or if anyone has run into this in the past.

thanks so much for reading.
