In html - its a built in function of the alt element of the img tag...
never dealt with in flash however...
you could easily make a little text box that is placed on the "over" state frame of the button - that would appear in about the right place (under the button and to the right).
And there is a number of ways to accomplish that...
but as far as an actual function of flash .... dont know.

and - - if it needs to pause for a second b4 itappears - you can make that text box an _mc wich has 10 or so empty frames before it appears (on the last frame).

There are some Flash components that can do that for you. I have one that's called Universal ToolTip v2.1. It's very easy to use. Just give an instance name to your button, drag the tooltip onto the feild. Put in the button's instance name and the message you want and BAM. Once the cursor is moved onto the button it appears and doesn't leave until the mouse is off the button. It even follows the cursor haha. I found it on the exchange. www.macromedia.com
